freedom from anxiety
“What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Anxiety therapy can help you reclaim your life
Do you wish you could relax more, worry less and become the person you know you can be…or used to be?
Perhaps you’re experiencing a chronic sense of uneasiness or an inability to enjoy life like everyone else around you. Or maybe your anxiety is much more intrusive, preventing you from doing the things you used to do with ease (like drive, fly, or be in crowded spaces). Your once full life is now closing in on you as you obsess over all the scary ‘what ifs’ that keep you from living in the present.
Whatever your situation may be, there’s one thing I want you to know: you are not alone.
Anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults in the United States each year. At this very moment, there are millions of men and women going through the exact same fears and uncomfortable sensations as you are.
The good news is that anxiety is treatable. You do not need to suffer in silence or feel that you have to figure it out on your own.
Unfortunately, too many people delay anxiety treatment because, paradoxically, anxiety often makes reaching out for help feel too scary or overwhelming.
When you get started, you’ll realize it’s not.
A typical client comes to me once anxiety has become their constant companion and is negatively affecting their work and/or relationships. On the outside, they may look like they have it all together, but inside they are freaking out as they struggle to push away intrusive and scary sensations and thoughts. Any semblance of control feels like it’s slipping away.
Suffering from anxiety does not mean you’re broken, or a failure or about to lose your mind. It simply means you have new skills you need to learn. Skills that anxiety counseling and therapy can help you master that much more quickly.
In a nutshell, you’ll feel much happier being you…which will in turn produce much more happiness in ALL your relationships, especially your most significant ones.
Anxiety therapy is a good fit for you if:
- Worry and stress are taking over your life
- You over-think things and/or have difficulty making decisions
- Anxiety is negatively impacting your relationships, work or social encounters
- You’re avoiding people, new challenges and situations to prevent feeling overwhelmed or anxious
- You constantly feel on edge and can’t seem to regain a sense of peace and calm
- You feel like you’re ‘losing control’
- Your over-anxious mind is keeping you from falling or staying asleep
Find peace of mind with anxiety counseling
Anxiety counseling can help address the fearful thoughts and behaviors that accompany anxiety disorders. This is because the way you react, can make your physical symptoms and emotional experiences that much worse…even if your anxiety is genetically or physiologically based.
One thing I love helping my clients discover is the root cause of their anxiety. This can be a huge breakthrough in and of itself, because when you understand why you’re thinking and feeling the way you are, a sense of relief often follows.
I’ll also help you to identify productive and unproductive thinking so you can stop anxious thoughts in their tracks, before they escalate.
To add to your skills, you’ll learn how to create calm and balance in your body; improve your diet, sleep and overall health; develop better coping skills; and, learn how to sit with uncomfortable feelings.
The truth is, anxiety is not your enemy – even if it sometimes feels like it is! Instead, it’s more like an over-protective mother, wanting to keep you safe at every turn.
The goal of anxiety counseling is to establish or re-establish your relationship with anxiety so that it’s in balance and working to your advantage, not against your happiness, relationships and health.
Taming the anxiety tiger with new skills and knowledge
My goal is to have you feeling calm and free from incessant worries and fears as soon as possible. Next, I want to help you regain your confidence and zest for life, so that you can get back to living fully.
As you’ve probably noticed, anxiety has a sneaky, insidious way of closing in on us and making our world seem smaller. It also has a way of eroding relationships. We’ll work to gain back all that you’ve lost…and more.
In addition, our work together will incorporate current neuroscience research and mindfulness-based approaches to help rewire your brain for calm and well-being. Each session is designed to help you integrate new skills into your daily living.
Together, we’ll work on uncovering the circumstances and beliefs that have contributed to your anxious feelings. We’ll also take time to explore techniques that calm and soothe your body and central nervous system so you can begin to walk through life feeling freer and more at peace in your own skin.
Frequently asked questions about anxiety treatment
Is anxiety therapy worth the investment?
While there is definitely a cost to therapy, there is an even greater cost to your life if you don’t address your anxiety as soon as possible. Please don’t suffer in silence or let your world close in on you. Decide to make an investment which will pay back in dividends with your happiness, productivity and health.
Isn’t taking medication enough?
While medication can help ease the symptoms of anxiety, therapy can help get to the underlying cause as well as help alleviate symptoms. I don’t see either as being exclusive of the other, but I definitely see therapy as essential if you want to truly understand your anxiety and learn how to successfully manage it long-term.
I will work with you to determine the best path for your recovery, and I am happy to collaborate with your physician or psychiatrist for a truly holistic approach.
What anxiety therapies do you use?
I incorporate current neuroscience research with mindfulness-based approaches; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy; relaxation and visualization techniques; and more. Each client receives an individualized approach, based on what we determine will help them most.
