Individual Therapy Services

People seek therapy for many different reasons. On this page, you’ll learn more about some of the areas and issues I specialize in to help adults, tweens and teens live happier, more fulfilled lives. If you have questions about your particular needs or would like to learn more about my approach to therapy, please send me an email or schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation.

ANXIETY THERAPY

Feeling anxious is a normal response to emotional or physical stress. In many instances, anxiety is an extremely powerful ally that helps us to achieve our goals, or warns us to take action in threatening situations.

That said, if constant worry or anxious feelings are holding you back from enjoying and thriving in everyday life— for instance, if you’re avoiding friends and family, falling behind in school or at work, or having trouble sleeping—it may be time to seek help.

Together, we’ll uncover the root cause of your anxiety and find ways to reclaim your sense of calm and wellbeing so you can get back to living fully.

LIFE TRANSITIONS

If there’s one thing we can count on in life, it’s change. Sometimes, our life transitions are met with joy. Other times, they can feel devastating.

A new baby, a divorce, an empty nest or any number of life’s challenges can leave us feeling fragile, anxious and/or depressed. If you’re experiencing a difficult transition, I can help you navigate through this uneasy period in your journey.

Together, we’ll implement strategies to help you heal, grow and land on your two feet feeling stronger and ready to move on to the next phase of your life.

RELATIONSHIP ISSUES

To have fulfilling relationships with others, we need a healthy, honest relationship with ourselves.

This is not always easy, or intuitive…which is where I can help.

Together, we’ll explore how you’ve evolved into the person you are today, and define your boundaries, wants, needs and goals. We’ll uncover your relationship patterns and any obstacles or situations that keep your from attaining your relationship dreams.

My goal during our time together is to guide you to become more self-aware, empowered and secure in yourself. As a result, you’ll be able to give and receive more in your most significant relationships.

Individual therapy is also a great place to explore what keeps you from finding a partner who’s a great fit, questioning whether you want to stay in your current relationship, processing an affair, or creating a new path forward after a separation or divorce.

TWEEN & TEEN COUNSELING

Growing up in Fairfield County isn’t always easy with sky-high academic pressures and tricky peer relationships made even more complicated by social media.

I enjoy working with children who are creative, high-achieving and/or sensitive but are feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood or simply out of step with the world. For some tweens and teens, therapy may focus on new ways to express emotions or change behavior, while for others, therapy may be about learning new social skills or building self-esteem.

Since getting kids to talk is not always easy, I integrate techniques from various therapeutic models to create a non-judgmental environment. The focus of therapy begins with creating a safe place where tweens and teens can feel supported and able to genuinely express themselves so that we can work through whatever issues they bring to therapy.

If you’re ready see your child smile more, feel more secure in their skin and navigate school and life with more joy and ease, please visit this page to learn more.

ACUTE & CHRONIC ILLNESS

Getting diagnosed with an illness can not only be scary and overwhelming, it can also throw your entire life into a spin. Fears about how to support yourself while you’re ill, what impact your illness will have on your family, and even which treatment options to choose can all put an incredible amount of stress on you.

To add to this stress, living with an acute or chronic illness can be extremely isolating since many people simply don’t understand what you’re experiencing. Your world may become smaller and smaller as your focus turns more to taking care of your body than being able to spend time with friends, family, or even keep up with work commitments.

Challenging as this phase of your life may be, I can help you learn to treat yourself with more compassion, set boundaries and ask for what you need. As a holistically orientated therapist, I can also collaborate with your healthcare practitioners to get you the most comprehensive care possible, as well as teach you to advocate for yourself.

The ultimate goal of therapy during acute or chronic illness is to help you live the best life possible with your illness, and to find balance, support and peace on the journey to recovery.

EMDR THERAPY

If you’ve recently suffered a traumatic life event or feel that a painful experience from your past is negatively impacting your present, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy may be able to help.

EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and shown to alleviate the symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is also now being used to treat anxiety, phobias, depression, sleep disorders, pain and more.

EMDR therapy works by processing unresolved traumatic memories that hijack your mind and helps the brain return to its natural state of well-being.

As a certified EMDR therapist, I integrate EMDR therapy into traditional talk therapy sessions as well as use it as stand-alone psychotherapy. If you’d like to learn more about EMDR therapy, I’d be happy to explain the process in more detail and determine if it’s a good fit for you.

DEPRESSION

Depression can feel incredibly heavy and isolating, yet millions of people suffer from depression every single day. Sometimes, it’s life’s difficult transitions – like death, divorce or illness – that send us into a downward spiral. Other times, depression seems to descend out of the blue…or as a sidekick to anxiety.

If your life has lost its luster, if you constantly feel sad, numb or hopeless, or if you’re just not connecting with people and activities like you used to, it’s time to get help.

Just like anxiety, depression is treatable, and my goal is to teach you how to heal from depression so you can get on with your life, joyfully and as a more resilient person.

MINDFULNESS COACHING

Mindfulness helps us pay attention to our experiences, without judgement, as they change from moment to moment. It’s an incredible skill that has been show to help increase focus, decrease stress, improve immune function and create a greater sense of satisfaction and wellbeing.

Just like exercise, research has shown that 20 minutes of mindfulness practice each day can positively impact the body and mind. Consistency is critical…but as we all know, consistency can be challenging to achieve on one’s own.

If you’re looking for help to start or deepen your mindfulness practice, I can help!

As a mindfulness coach, I will keep you accountable, offer support when you experience challenges, and teach you how to be more present and mindful in your day-to-day experiences and interactions.
